Life is a test. We are not present on earth to just exist; we are here to learn. Life is a lesson. Love one another unconditionally. Love thyself unconditionally. We spend our whole lives learning to do this. Some succeed and some never have a clue. I'm trying. Love my fellow man. Don't react and don't always have to be right. This is one I'll have to work on for the rest of my life. Appreciate each day and recognize positive and negative as a part of life's experiences. Look around me and see life at it's best. The joys of living come as you strive to achieve your dreams. Its the quality of each day that is important, not the distant dream once achieved. Teach and nurture my children. You can never give them too much love. -Randa Jex 1/1/94

Headed back to work

Well it has been 7 1/2 weeks since Austin came into this world and I'm not really sure where the time went. I feel like my time at home went by in the blink of an eye but when I think about all that we did in those 7 1/2 weeks.... it feels like 7 months. I know I have been a terrible blogger since I have been too busy staring at my baby to really do much of anything. But here are a few highlights from Austin's life as a 7 week old:

  • He is smiling up a storm. His favorite things to smile about are Zach 'gobbling' up his feet and hands, when I rub lotion on his face, while I am talking to him as I change his diaper, and while in his bouncy seat looking at his toys.
  • He loves music of any kind...noise machine, glow worm, lullabies, guitar, bands at festivals, music in restaurants. He falls asleep to pretty much any tune!
  • He is holding his head up by himself although you can tell it's still a struggle
  • He LOVES ceiling fans and literally slips into a trance when he sees one
  • He discovered his hands and feet and loves to stare at them and move them like crazy
  • We still are trying to figure out who he looks like but most votes are for my brother Cory
  • He has grown 3 inches since birth and is now wearing some of his 3 month clothes because his torso is so long. He has his daddy's feet and is already wearing a size 1. He is well on his way to sharing size 14 shoes with his daddy
  • He loves holding your hand and that will calm him down when he is uneasy
  • He is a very calm baby with a soft little cry. The only time he really uses those lungs is to tell us he is hungry.
  • He loves to be swaddled and falls asleep almost immediately
  • He sleeps in his crib and has gotten into a good routine of waking up one time to feed at night, I am hoping to drop that feeding in the next week or two. We are following the principles of Baby Wise and have found it works great for us.
  • He has captured our hearts. Every time Zach walks in the door he heads straight to Austin to hold him. I have a hard time not holding him every second of the day while I am home with him. Both sets of grandparents are in love and are constantly over here loving on him, feeding him, and even changing dirty diapers.
Pictures are coming soon.... I have snapped a ton on my phone but I need to start using my camera more.
